Local K-9 Deputy and Canine Partner Struck by Drunk Driver in Loudoun County

Robert Charles Neumeister

On the early morning of April 16, 2023, a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) K-9 deputy was in the midst of conducting a traffic stop for a speeding vehicle along Route 7 West near the Battlefield ramp in Leesburg. At approximately 1:43 am, while the deputy was issuing a summons to the driver, another vehicle collided with the patrol vehicle, which had its emergency equipment activated.

Despite the impact, the deputy managed to follow the hit-and-run vehicle and initiated another traffic stop. The driver attempted to flee the scene at high speeds but was eventually stopped and found to be intoxicated. Thankfully, no injuries were sustained by the deputy, his canine partner, or the driver involved in the collision.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Robert Charles Neumeister from Stephenson, was arrested and charged with Hit & Run, Reckless Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, Eluding, and Narcotics Possession. Neumeister was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
