Grand Larceny Auto: 500 Block of Wordsworth Circle Purcellville VA

At 6:50 a.m. the complainant noticed that his vehicle was missing. He checked his security camera and observed a suspect enter and steal the vehicle at approximately 3:40 a.m. Officers learned that the vehicle was equipped with a GPS tracking system installed by the finance company. Officers were able to track down an after hours number and learned that the vehicle’s crash sensor had been activated at 3:54 a.m. in Lovettsville. Deputies responded and recovered the unoccupied vehicle.

At 11:46 a.m. a resident in the 600 Block of S. Maple Ave reported that while reviewing security camera video, he observed an unknown suspect attempt unsuccessfully to open his locked car door. This occurred at approximately 3:32 a.m.

At 12:21 officers responded to a residence on Crosman Court in which the complaint reported that his security camera captured an image at 3:25 a.m. of someone trying the locked door handle on his vehicle.   The suspect can then be seen approaching a neighbor’s vehicle, but fleeing when a floodlight turned on.

Given the proximity by time and location to the stolen car, the incidents are likely related. The PPD and LCSO are working jointly on these investigations.
