Deputies were in the area for a gunfire complaint when they observed a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner, nearly striking other vehicles. Deputies attempted a traffic stop but the driver did not initially pull over and instead bailed out of the vehicle in the 21000 block of Bronte Place.
As deputies approached, the subject displayed a knife and refused to follow commands, so a Taser was used to take him into custody. Jose H. Portillo Lopez, 32, of Sterling, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (4th of subsequent conviction within 10 years), Assault on Law Enforcement, Driving on a Suspended License after DWI, and Reckless Driving. Portillo Lopez was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held pending a bond review. He also has outstanding probation violation warrants and two warrants out of Fairfax.
