While deputies were on another call they witnessed an unrelated vehicle strike another vehicle and then drive away. A deputy on scene attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle, when the driver sped up as he approached the deputy. The deputy was able to get out of the way and was not injured. Another deputy on scene activated his emergency equipment and followed the striking vehicle in his cruiser. The vehicle pulled over approximately ¼ mile from the crash scene. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Jared M. Aleman Artiga, 21, of Herndon was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Drinking While Operating a Motor Vehicle, and Attempted Malicious Wounding. Aleman Artiga was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
