An estranged couple, who were co-habituating in the residence of a friend, while paying on a month-to-month basis, got into an argument, resulting in the ex-boyfriend attempting to evict his ex-girlfriend. Police informed both that neither had standing to evict anyone, as both were paying rent. Consequently, they were advised of the civil ramifications involved and their right to occupy the property until a formal lease is signed and the RP is given a reasonable amount of time to find another place to live. They were advised to minimize their contact, keep the peace, and commit no acts of violence against each other or property. No additional police involvement was required.
