Leesburg, VA (August 12, 2020) – 28 year old Bradford Cellucci was sentenced to life in prison today in the Loudoun County Circuit Court by the Honorable Judge James Fisher. Earlier this year, Cellucci entered an Alford plea to the charge of aggravated malicious wounding stemming from a 2015 hammer attack at the Leesburg Outlet Mall.
On July 28, 2015 at approximately 6:34 PM, officers were dispatched to the Polo Ralph Lauren store, located at the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets at 241 Fort Evans Road NE, Suite 491, in regards to an employee of the store who had just been assaulted by an unknown suspect.
The employee, then-18-year-old Bryan Pedroza, was assisting the suspect with a clothing purchase and was escorting him to a fitting room, when he was struck in the neck by the suspect who was wielding a hammer. The claw end of the hammer made impact with the side of the victim’s neck causing puncture wounds. After striking the victim, the suspect fled the store and ran towards the parking lot, leaving the hammer behind.
Pedroza was paralyzed from the mid-torso down as a result of the attack. Pedroza also suffers from limited use of his arms and hands.
Cellucci fled the Northern Virginia area during the investigation. Officers recovered the hammer and ultimately linked Cellucci to the incident with DNA and video evidence. Cellucci was charged and arrested in 2018 in Texas.
“I would like to thank the Leesburg Police officers and detectives who tirelessly investigated this vicious assault for multiple years, as well as the Office of the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney for their pursuit of justice for a young man who suffered this life-changing senseless act of violence,” said Chief Greg Brown.
